CNN is manipulating voters. The CNN lead story today was entitled “Hillary Clinches Democratic presidential nomination“. This is not true. Until superdelegates vote at the Democratic Convention, their vote does not count.
CNN: your vote doesn’t matter
Let’s say you are a Bernie Sanders supporter, and you heard that Hillary had won. It’s been a long slog against the Democratic Party establishment. Your candidate has done better than you could ever hope, but CNN says he is finished. You have a choice. You can get up early to vote, thinking all the while that your vote doesn’t matter. Or you go can back to sleep.
It’s not just CNN that is prematurely anointing Hillary. The Washington Post says “Hillary Clinton just clinched the Democratic nomination”. Evidently the Clinton machine has been working the media to shut down the Democratic vote. The source in both cases is the Associated Press, based on stated assurances from unspecified superdelegates that they won’t change their minds.
If two-thirds of Hillary superdelegates switch, Bernie wins!
Including superdelegates, Clinton has 2384 delegates, Bernie Sanders has 1568. If 385 of Hillary’s 572 superdelegates were to vote for Bernie, he would have 2000 delegates to her 1999. So if two thirds of Hillary superdelegates change their mind, Bernie leads.
Voters in New Jersey and California still have influence
California has 475 Democratic delegates. New Jersey has 126. A large turnout for Bernie Sanders in these states can have a huge impact on superdelegates who, long before Bernie showed his mettle, pledged to Hillary. Hillary has baggage. Bernie Sanders can unite unhappy voters on the left and the right. Get out and vote!
